CSN (National Steel Company) was founded on April 9, 1941, and started operations on October 1, 1946. As the first integrated steel producer in Brazil, CSN is a milestone in the Country’s industrialization process. The steel produced by CSN allowed the implementation of the first Brazilian industries, core of the Country’s current industrial park. After its privatization in 1993, and after over six decades of activity, the Company still makes history.

With a production capacity of 5.6 Mty and approximately sixteen thousand employees, CSN concentrates its activities in steelmaking, mining, infrastructure and cement, its most recent business, started in May, 2009.

The integrated strategy, aligned to its core business, grants the Company leadership in the Brazilian steel sector. The acquisition of assets of Heartland Steel in 2001, constituting CSN LLC in the US, marked the beginning of CSN’s internationalization process. The Company’s assets today include an integrated steel mill, five industrial units, two of which overseas (US and Portugal), iron ore, limestone and dolomite mines, a strong distributor of flat steel products, port terminals, stakes in railways and in two hydroelectric power plants. With strong, innovative management, the Company believes in the entrepreneurship strength of national capital and in Brazil’s huge competitive potential in the steel industry.

CSN steel is present in various segments, among which Automotive, Civil Construction, Packagings, White Goods and OEM, supplied to clients in Brazil and abroad.

An environment of citizenship

CSN’s industrial operations use state-of-the-art technology, a safe and healthy workplace and quality and environmental management systems certified by norms ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, respectively. In addition, the Company provides competitive human resources policies and permanent social activity, specially in the communities it is surrounded by.

The CSN Foundation is the Company’s social arm. With one of the highest social investments in the Country, the Foundation develops projects contributing to social transformation in the community, in fields such as education, community development, health, culture and sports.
